EarthQuakes offer support for setting up new sister group

EarthQuakes are an Extinction Rebellion (XR) Affinity Group. It is made up, mainly, of Quakers from the Redland meeting and “friends of Friends” that hold similar Quaker values (as does XR) of equality, non-violence and justice.

A lot has happened in the last year and a half. Extinction Rebellion and its growing number of activists have raised the awareness of the urgency of drastic action to prevent our precious planet reaching a tipping point – and the UK parliament has ceded to XR’s first demand in declaring a Climate Emergency.

But there is a lot more to achieve if we are to avert a climate catastrophe.

Affinity groups ideally comprise of between 8-13 members and, unfortunately, EarthQuakes are at our capacity.

We would, however, like to support any other Quakers who wish to form a new group by inviting them to an open, informal gathering at Jo Flanagan’s house, 128 North Road, St Andrews BS6 5AL, on Sunday 29th September 6-7.30pm.  This would be a chance for interested individuals, including like-minded friends of Quakers, to meet each other and find out more about how XR and Affinity Groups work.

If members of this gathering then decided that they would like to form a new Affinity Group, Earthquake members would be very happy to accompany them to their first weekly Bristol XR induction meeting to start the process, if they would like that extra support.

If you are interested in joining an Affinity Group and would like to come to the meeting on the 29th September please ring: 07800825618.
