Meetings for Learning are held on the 3rd Sunday of the month, in the Meeting House upstairs library. They start at 10.00 prompt, and end at 10.45 so Friends can then go to Meeting for Worship.
Subjects vary but all relate in some way to being a Quaker in the 21st century. Recent sessions have focused on proportional representation in our voting system, young people getting involved in Quaker action, and responding to the climate crisis. Future meetings are no less varied and thought-provoking so do join us – everyone is welcome. Just turn up in time for a 10am start, prepared to be stimulated, challenged or informed – or all three!
15 September: This year’s Swarthmore Lecture, given at Britain Yearly Meeting 25th May.
This Lecture, on the spiritual basis for climate justice, was given by Eden Grace, Global Ministries Director for Friends United Meeting. In this session, led by Lee Cottier, you can hear about some impressions from Lee and other Friends who heard the Lecture at BYM, and have the opportunity to share our own perspectives on the connection between Quakerism and climate justice. (The Lecture is not yet available online or in print but we expect tit will be in due course.)
Watch this space for news of further Meetings for Learning in the Autumn – a wide range of stimulating topics are in the pipeline. Suggestions for future topics are always welcome.
