A message has been received from Steven Walton, recalling Mary Friend as a member of Redland Meeting. He offers the following contribution to her testimony:
‘Mary’s vocal ministry in the 1990s was of variable quality and often indicated her state of mind and mood at the time. At worst it was flowers and pleasantries. At its best it could be searingly perceptive and insightful. She revealed great spiritual depths and provided the Meeting for Worship with the opportunity to plumb them. A source of her profound ministry was, I believe, the mental distress and suffering she experienced throughout her life. This was her Cross and the Dark Nights of her Soul from which we benefited.’
Steven has been sent a copy of the Memorial to Mary Friend which was recently read at Local Meeting and entered into the Redland Memorial Book.
